Tricia Montgomery founded K9 Fit Club® in 2012. Now serving as the CEO of the organization, Ms. Montgomery is the nation’s leading expert and pioneer in human/canine fitness. Her diverse experience in veterinary medicine, public relations, animal rescue, personal training, and her own weight loss journey gave her the perfect combination of skills to create a nationwide community of clubs– dedicated to the health, fitness, wellness and mental wellbeing for people and their dogs.
As the former Executive Director and Public Education Director of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, Montgomery led the association and directed staff, programs and activities to ensure productivity and growth. She managed extensive communication for committees and the largest regional veterinary medical association in the country. Along with preparing and maintaining key contacts in legislation, Montgomery also served under Mayor Daley’s City of Chicago Commission of Animal Control Task Force. Ms. Montgomery also served as spokesperson for the association related to policies and positions. Montgomery was the spokesperson and media relations contact or the International Kennel Club for 10 years, obtaining unprecedented media coverage for the show.
Montgomery is certified in Power Pilates Core Mat 1, National Association of Sports Medicine and American Sports & Fitness Association. A former Certified Veterinary Technician, she is now studying for recertification through VTNE. Montgomery also serves as a research investigator for Purdue University, Healthy People 2020 and assists with healthy initiatives in communities around the country.
Ms. Montgomery has been featured on the Today Show, USA Today, Dateline News, NPR, MSNBC, Good Morning America, FOX News, Women’s Health, Dog Fancy, Washington Post and AAPA News to mention a few. She is the host of “Sit, Stay & Get Fit”, a weekly fitness show on DirectTV.
Montgomery shares her life with her daughter Gabrielle and Zeus her Red-Nosed Pit Bull.
Director of Research and Development
Len Serwat began his interest in fitness and health as a high school freshman. Pursuing his passion as a career, Len was accepted into Arizona State’s prestigious Athletic Training Program, the only freshman admitted in 1976, and was awarded an Athletic Scholarship. After graduating in 1981 with a degree in Physical Education and Athletic Training, he became a Certified Athletic Trainer with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association in 1985.
Len is currently in his thirty-third year at Hinsdale Central High School in suburban Chicago. He has taught Physical Education (33 years), Adapted Physical Education (10 years) and Introduction to Sports Medicine (28 years). He started the first Men’s Volleyball Program at Hinsdale and served as head coach for fourteen years. He served as Assistant Athletic Director and Resource Athletic Director for Athletic Training for the fourteen school West Suburban Conference.
In 1991 Len earned his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Illinois, Champaign.
As Director of Research and Development for K9 Fit Club, with his dedication to fitness and love of animals, Len hopes to spread the importance of health for both groups. Working with a wider range of individuals will be a new chapter in Len’s life, but one that he can’t wait to start.
Veterinary Technician (RVT)
Beckie is a Registered Veterinary Technician living in Wilmington, NC. She is a 2007 graduate of Central
Carolina Community College. Beckie has had a diverse career including small animal, exotic, large
animal, and mixed animal practices, as well as experience in academia and management.
Beckie is currently Executive Director of 3K9 Working Dogs Inc. a Service Dog training organization; she
enjoys independent veterinary consulting, speaking professionally across the country, and writing for
various veterinary publications. Beckie is a trainer with K9 Fitness in Wilmington, NC and she has
recently joined the team at Buzzwoof as a contributing blogger and has greatly enjoying reaching out of
the veterinary box in participating with these great organizations.
Beckie has served on her state association since 2008 and is proud to have been voted NC Veterinary
Technician of the Year 2015. She serves as Treasurer and Chairperson for the National Association of
Veterinary Technicians in America, and member at large for the Society of Veterinary Medical Ethics.
When she is not working or volunteering her time, Beckie enjoys time at the beach fishing with her
husband Timmy, spending time their 5 dogs and 2 cats, getting out on the water whenever possible, and
quality time with her family whenever possible.
Co-Founder, Brandless, a Web Development & Digital Design company. Prior to Brandless, Ric led a 5 to 500 million dollar growth through licensing, development of technology and content distribution.
