K9 Fit Club founder wants to stop the obesity epidemic for people — and their dogs
Tricia Montgomery has battled weight issues her whole life. But it was a trip to the vet that made her realize she wasn’t the only one struggling. Her dog was putting on the pounds, too.
“I looked at myself in the mirror and saw that not only do I need to change, but my dogs do too,” says Montgomery.
We have become a nation of couch potatoes, she says. And our dogs are sitting right next to us.
So Montgomery, 48, got off the couch and, with her dog by her side, lost 130 pounds. In 2012, she founded Chicago-based K9 Fit Club, a weight-loss program designed for people and their dogs, to help others do the same.
Now, the company, which has 10 physical locations across the country, has launched an online certification program that aims to bring K9 Fit Club to more cities while teaching people how to start their own businesses as trainers.
“So many people want to get healthy and are torn between spending time with their best friends or going to the gym,” says Montgomery. “We realized how many lives we could change and help and wanted to share what we’ve learned with others.”…
